Join medical students to learn about the special OSCE examination for the health sciences field.

VHUers! Have you ever heard the concept of " OSCE examination"? If not, let's learn about this special exam with medical and nursing students of School of Medicine and Pharmacy at Van Hien University!

The objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) is a form of test commonly used in health professions training schools. The examination is designed to assess the ability to perform clinical skills and other skills such as communication skills on realistic simulation models. Each OSCE exam will include many stations, each station will be designed with different questions/situations/technical procedures within a certain period. When time runs out, medical students must leave the current station and move to the next station and continue their exam. That's why it is also called by another name “The station running examination” in Vietnam.

OSCE in practical examination will usually be designed with 4-6 stations, each candidate has 5-15 minutes of performing the procedure, and candidates will rotate through stations to complete the requirements of all stations. This way, all candidates arrive at the same stations. This is considered an improvement over traditional examination methods because the stations can be standardized allowing for fairer peer comparisons and without jeopardizing the health of patients.

Belowed pictures show a OSCE exam for nursing students of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Van Hien University. Nursing students will have 5 minutes to proactively prepare necessary medical equipment before starting the exam stations.

For this type of exam, students build independent skills in clinical practice, as well as practice quick and accurate reflexes in handling situations as well as performing nursing techniques on patients.

It sounds "stressful", but in reality it's not that stressful, as evidenced by the fact that the 3rd year nursing students did very well in this exam. Don't worry too much. The training program for students of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, Van Hien University will meet all the necessary skills for this exam. Feel free to join and study with us now!
